19. Gephardt was the guy that Kerry seemed most personally comfortable
with, and he genuinely respected him. (In an interview before the Iowa caucuses, he told a reporter that he (Kerry) had to drop out, he would support Gephardt. )
I wonder if Kerry himself regrets not choosing Gephardt in 2004 . . .
Well, easy to see things in hindsight. At the time, I think few people would have predicted that Edwards would have been as ineffective campaigner and debater as he turned out to be .
