The group who is leading this anti-Kerry movement ("Swiftboat Veterans for Truth") is being funded by the Bush-Cheney campaign. Hopefully Americans will see them for the frauds that they are.
The facts are:
(1) None of the "veterans" in this group actually served with Kerry on either of the two swiftboats that he commanded. The vast majority of them never even knew Kerry in Vietnam. Many of them didn't even serve in Vietnam at the same time or in the same place as Kerry. They have absolutely no credibility whatsoever. How can you attest to a man's character (or lack thereof) when you've never even met him?
(2) Their actions are motivated entirely by politics and jealousy. Politically, the vast majority of them are Republicans. As I mentioned above, their group is being funded by the Bush-Cheney campaign. Most of the folks in the group are the savage, testosterone-driven types who took pride in how many gooks they killed or how many villages they burned down. They are in the very, very small minority of Vietnam Veterans. They are also incredibly jealous of John Kerry, who earned an amazing three Purple Hearts, Bronze Star and Silver Star during his combat tour, not to mention saving the lives of all the men on his ships (who all support him in his campaign). Most of the guys in "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" were REMFs (military folks know what this means). Unlike John Kerry, they weren't saving guys' lives under enemy fire. They were safely behind the lines while the combat troops were taking all the fire. And so, they are incredibly jealous of a combat-tested hero like Kerry.
(3) If anyone is suffering from a "lack of character," it is the guys in "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth." All of them have refused to open up their military records. Why? Obviously because they have skeletons in the closet. It has been revealed that several prominent members of the group are common criminals who have served jail time as civilians. I guess that begs the question of how many of them were court-martialed or demoted during their time in Vietnam.
(4) John Kerry's military records have been released. They are available in their entirety on JohnKerry.com. When you read them, you'll see that he had an impeccable record as an officer in the United States Navy. He is consistently rated "excellent" and "outstanding" by his superiors. They describe him as an officer of the highest intelligence, leadership quality and seamanship. His reports for the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart awards describe gallantry and courage under fire, as he saved the life of Army Sgt. Jim Rassman. Now, some of his old superiors and fellow officers will try to attack him for political gain (and $$$ from the Republican machine), but it's not going to work. Their words in 1968 and 1969 are on the record for everyone to see.
