Obama was referring to the newly registered, idealistic voters that he was bringing into the process, as well as Independents and disaffected Republicans. At the time he made that quote, Hillary still had the majority of support of the African American community. So to claim that it was a race-baiting comment is mistaken, because you are applying the current political climate, to a quote that was made when the situation was dramatically different.
