The U.S. IS ready for a female candidate, just not the one running (according to her detractors): Barbara Boxer and Gov. Sebelius are two fine examples, and there are many more.

The whole point is for race and gender to take a back seat to issues. Hillary makes excellent points about issues, but she frames her whole campaign as being "up against the guys". I understand the feeling, and I have certainly been in positions where I was challenged for no other reason than being the only woman working at the same level as men, but there is a difference to what you say to yourself and your closest confidants, versus what you say to the nation at large. She didn't play the victim 10 years ago during the M L scandal, and there is no reason to do so now. She should have been better than that.
