hop up an down as soon they come out, it's been my experience that so many people don't even know they exist. Ask the man on the street what AFSCME, SEIU, PDA, GLBT, IAEA, UFPJ, LCV OR EVEN Media Matters stand for and most don't have a clue. The list goes on and on. Some may not even know what MoveOn.org. Daily Kos and Huffington Post do. While these endorsements generate a kind of frenzy here and affect the people associated with them, millions out there seem oblivious to their significance.
But name dropping of famous people catch their attention even though they might not know any "particulars" about their agenda. Rupert Murdoch is a familiar name, but his association with the likes of Clinton may make some think he's a Democrat, when his real agenda is buying power. So it is with candidates. The Ron Paul mania is a good example too. A few words here and there and they only hear what they want to.
But when it comes to people like George McGovern, Robert Kennedy, Jr, Dick Gephardt, Oprah, John Kerry, Bloomberg, Barbra Streisand and these types I think they carry more weight. Still, attention spans these days are short and people don't always remember "who" they support. The name Bill Clinton generates a multitude of reactions and not all supportive. So I agree that endorsements can be fickle. But it's big stuff here and I'm guilty of over reaction myself.
Bill Clinton has a certain charisma, but has always been more moderate than I am, but I stumped for him and only later did see that his administration promoted ideas I now don't agree with. And so it goes.
And if the Clark people turn to HRC, I see many Kucinich people turning to Edwards and to a lesser extent Obama. So our initial excitement about the hoopla here does not necessarily filter down to those who vote, but are uninformed.
My gripe is about the constant push from MSM and their daily mantra of only a few and dismissing what the other candidates have to say. Debates don't have enough substance unless the front-runners slip up, or as the say "hit one out of the park" and that's the basis from which many people cast a vote.
I could go on, but it's very late, so upon reflection our discussions here have had a certain impact on others less informed, but mean much more to those who live in our world. I'm sure you've met many people who say certain things and you KNOW there's much more depth involved but you lose them when you begin to elaborate. I really must stop, but I have enjoyed sharing views without vitriol and animus even though we may have a few differences and perspectives.
And now it's time for :boring: and a :toast: to you!
