As the author of a number of books on why Democratic ideas defeat Publican ideology every time, I can't see him saying that ideology means nothing, and that manipulating people psychologically is the basis of his work. Even if he actually believed that (which I don't think he does), it would destroy his credibility to announce it -- it would be like a magician revealing how he performs his tricks, and then expecting the audience to believe they really are magic.

This does look like a right-wing attempt to put words into Carville's mouth. I remeber, back in 2000, some Publican took a whole list of Dan Quayle quotes, changed the party names, and sent them out as having been spoken by "Vice-President Al Gore." I see no reason to trust the veracity of this any more than that particular bit of disinformation.
