6. A little of both, actually
The case he was dismissed for over not rushing to media completion before Heather Wilson (R-COW) had to face another very close election was a case against the state treasurer, Vigil, a Democrat who'd succeeded a GOPer and inherited a carefully constructed web of bribes and kickbacks. He has claimed his innocence all along, undoubtedly thought that was the way to run the office since it had always been run that way before. As usual, it only became illegal when a Democrat did it, and Iglesias was only too happy to comply with his crucifixion.

He's also a victim, since his refusal to rush the case meant it actually went forward instead of being dismissed for lack of evidence, and was attacked for not turning it into a campaign issue.

Iglesias is no choirboy. He was doing everything Rove wanted him to do, but he was trying to do it right. He was dismissed for trying to do it right.

There are no men in white hats in this drama. Vigil broke the law, even if he was gullible enough to believe he hadn't. Iglesias was a Rove yesman who thought a dirty job should be done right. Domenici and Wilson, as close as stink on shit, wanted him out because he failed to proceed to smear all Democrats in a timely manner. There is nothing low enough to describe either Rove or Gonzales.
