Reply #22: Excellent summary of southern OH!

I spent most of my life in northern Ohio until last summer, when I moved to SD, but my mom was born and raised in the Columbus area and we still have family and some friends in southern OH. A lot of northern Ohioans really resent the conservatism of southern Ohio and they tend to blame ALL of it, including the Appalachian counties, without knowing or understanding the demographics you describe.

I'd probably feel the same way if I didn't have a mother who knows and understands perfectly well what you're describing. It's really a shame that the whole area is lumped together in people's minds. Things are never really that simple.
