13. Whatever his record, he's weakening us
Whatever his record, he's weakening us. I don't know his voting record. I'm not familiar with much about who he was in times past. I do know that in recent years, he's failed to provide strong liberal leadership. It's worse than that, his weak positions and attempts to curry favor with the Bush cabal and Republican leadership has actually damaged the public image of the Democratic Party. If I knew nothing about politics and saw Lieberman... I'd assume Democrats were indeed pathetic and unworthy of support. So, what I'm saying is this: his public communications harms Democrats. Indeed, the very fact that he gets as much media coverage is indicative of the fact that the Republican machine likes him or the way he represents Democrats. If he were doing a reasonable job of standing up for liberal values--much like other good Democrats, we'd scarcely even hear about him.

I've actually felt ashamed when I've seen him placating Republicans--at best, it's as though he hasn't realized that traditional politics is no more; Republicans are playing this as "total war", they are in no way interested in any kind of bipartisan action or negotiations of any sort. It's their way or the highway and prostituting one's principles in an effort to work together with them is not only ineffective, but downright harmful to our situation.
