Letter to the US Senate (Filibuster rules)

Although some (including me) would prefer harder more condemning rhetoric, in the end it's difficult to preach or request "reason" while throwing stones...

My true feeling is that we should be calling nationwide general strikes, walk-outs, sick-outs, boycotts etc. (eastern European style) to attempt to garner the attention of our government, corporations and the American media. I am convinced that this is the only way to get their attention... through their wallets. And whereas there is support among us (see posts below), it seems that the hottest posts (and I'll take flak for stating this) are more about comment than action.

Below are links to some posts are my letter to Senator Larry Craig regarding the potential Filibuster vote.

Everyone should write or call their Senators and Congressman (or woman) regarding this issue and us it to brush upon all the outrageous things that are happening.

STRIKE, SLOW DOWN, BOYCOTT!!!

Todays letter to Senator Larry Craig of Idaho

Results MSNBC - Newsweek Poll (15309 responses): Do you believe the Senate rules on filibusters should be changed?

Yes: 44%
No: 54%
I don't know: 2%

Whereas you and I know that the majority of Americans (and Idahoans) probably know nothing about filibusters, we also know that the "filibuster option" has been useful to both parties at different times throughout the last few decades. The tendency of this current government to dramatically alter rules and law to achieve various short-term goals is frightening and this assault on the filibuster is outrageous! How does altering the "checks and balances" in our system to fast track 5 judges serve any part of our "Democracy"? I hear "why?" a lot these days regarding everything from rising state and local taxes, fuel prices to personal bankruptcy law and the proposal for social security reform. The answer increasingly seems to be "follow the money". There are currently a lot of zealous (and somewhat misinformed) Americans who blindly rubberstamp everything that is happening under President Bush, the Republican House and Senate, however I'm sure you'll agree that this can not last forever. In the end we’re all Americans and eventually deficits, cost of living, hundred of billions in corporate perks and the fruitless loss of life in Iraq (or subsequent conflicts) will register among us all and personally I’d want to be remembered as a voice of reason in a time of madness. I’m old enough to remember most of what happened in the 1960’s including the day JFK was shot in Dallas and what’s happening in this country (in our government) today is truly “madness”. Zell Miller, a Democrat who vehemently supported the GOP during last years Republican National Convention recently said on National television that the “DC” in Washington DC stands for “Don’t Care”. I sincerely hope that this is not the case.
