5. L.A. Weekly to hit Chertoff on protecting Torricelli
Looks like people who know NJ politics will be weighing in about him...hopefully this is just the beginning of things being written.
Heh, heh.. Jersey politics. This may get real interesting. Here's hoping people in my homestate start coughing stuff up on this guy.

Veteran journalist Doug Ireland is set to issue a stinging rebuke of Bush Homeland Security nominee in this week’s L.A. Weekly, RAW STORY has learned.

The piece, which details the rise of the federal appeals court judge and post-9/11 Ashcroft favorite Michael Chertoff, sheds new light on the nominee who is little known outside New Jersey and inside the Beltway.

The nominee, Ireland says, was a partisan juggernaut as U.S. Attorney in New Jersey. But he says Chertoff spared former Democratic Senator Robert Torricelli–who was forced out of his job over a spate of campaign finance violations–as they were buddy-buddy on the Jersey political scene. Ireland has long covered the machinations on the east coast political scene for the weekly.

“Chertoff was a political attack dog in that job, indicting and convicting a raft of Democratic officeholders,” Ireland pens. “But one who Chertoff deliberately let get away was his big buddy, Bob ‘The Torch’ Torricelli, forced to resign his U.S. Senate seat from Sopranoland in a major corruption scandal.”
