The standards of civil discourse are not defined as "whatever black folks think." The fact that black people might say or do something doesn't make it right any more than the fact that white folks say or do something.

See how this sentence strikes you:

"You might be offended by it, but I GUARANTEE YOU WHITE FOLKS around the country share my opinion."

That's not a defense. That's not even an excuse.

One does well to consider the broad culture. If it becomes acceptable to call Steele an uncle tom for kow-towing to Rush then it will become acceptable to call Obama and uncle tom when he capitulates to Harry Reid on something.

The point is the overall coarseness of political discourse as it relates to race. Seeing as how we have a president of color there is much to be said for keeping that level of discourse high.
