And Rick Warren seems to be "their" leader.

As a Democrat, I loathe, despise and am positively infuriated by Obama's choice of Warren to give the invocation. But that seems to be Obama's goal here (pissing us off, that is).

Yet in the small "d" democratic sense, I understand Obama's goal, even though I can't agree with him on it. I'd rather pretend that the Religious Right doesn't exist or at least ignore everything they have to say. But does that approach really change their beliefs or political influence? Probably not.

With regards to this Warren thing, perhaps Obama is just more noble and democratic than I...or maybe he's just flat out wrong. For me that decision will be made by what Warren says in the invocation and the role Obama plays in shaping what he says. For all of our sakes, let's hope that the Obama team does a better job handling him than they have these people in the past (i.e. in early primary states).

So I'm just sitting here in the corner in wait-and-see mode, with my arms folded and a scowl on my face. I'm pissed, but I'm going to reserve my final judgment until I hear what Warren has to say.

I'd be interested in hearing what DUers who regularly interact with fundies think about this. (I'm in Philly so I don't)

Apologies for the rambling, disjointed post, but that pretty much accurately reflects how I feel about this. grr, meh, !, etc.
