I doubt most Repuds will EVER get why so many of us across the political spectrum are voting Democratic these days. Most of them have never traveled abroad (Except maybe to a couple of tourist enclaves), most of them have never read history (Except for maybe a book about World War II), and most of them lack the very nasty sorts of imaginations that would clue them in to what the US could become if they got their political wish-lists fulfilled.

I am voting Democratic because I believe that the Democratic Party offers the best possibilities for sustaining and nurturing an orderly society that not only provides a place for people to better themselves, but also provides protection against the well-armed, well-financed criminal gangs that have turned so much of today's Latin America into a playground for kidnapping rings and violent blackmailers. The programs to create and sustain such a society DO cost money, but much, much less than blackmail or ransom payments do.

Democrats and progressives may rightly remember "Law and Order" as right-wing code-speak for suppressing minorities from back in the 1960's and 1970's. But GENUINE law and order is something that Democrats and progressives can offer Americans (Remember--crime rates went DOWN while Bill Clinton was President) that right-wing tax-cut and budget-cutting fanatics and gun lobbyists can't.
