they steer people to clinics because clinics will provide service faster and cheaper. The hospital in my hometown does this, and my dad works 1 or 2 days a week at the same day care at his clinic. Patients at same day care get attention in under 30 minutes, and rates are comparable to normal care. The ER will charge out the ass and it takes 3+ hours to get stitches.
