Barbara Boxer: "Barack Obama will pick whomever he wants (for VP)."

Boxer dismissed the idea of the party forcing Clinton on the ticket as vice president as a way to bridge the divide.

"Barack Obama will pick whoever he wants," Boxer said. "That's a very important choice for the president. If he is the nominee, then he is going to choose his running mate. And no one really can tell him who it ought to be."

The decision, she said, will be based on how Obama views the vice presidency and the role it would play in his administration, and what would strengthen his chances in the election, among many other factors.

"The last thing I'd ever do is tell someone who I think would be the best choice, because that is really something that is the nominee's choice," Boxer said.
