my suspicion is that limbaugh foolishly bet the ranch on romney and has trashed mccain so thoroughly that there is no escape from eating a lot of crow in order to line up behind mccain. and he can't do that.

i also suspect, but could not track down the ratings to prove it, is that limbaugh's ratings (and therefore his income) were higher when he was a voice of opposition and that, somewhere, in his tangled psychological web of idiocy, he yearns for hillary as a foe for four years, during which time he can put any move to the left on her part under a microscope and then pretend to be a potential kingmaker by pushing romney again for 2012.

the beauty of it all for him is that he can do all this by playing the self-righteous arch-conservative who can't sell out to mccain.

far-fetched perhaps, but i can't imagine a scenario where he basically has to come out and say he was wrong about mccain. his credibility, such as it is, is on the line in a big way.
