Perhaps, in the future, people will have the ability to affect major changes from a grassroots level.

But, the global economy, media consolidation, wealth and power consolidation, and complete lack of anyone ever being held TRULY accountable for fraud, crimes, corruption, etc. does not give me much confidence in the 'system' as it exists today.

And, if ever there was a time that called for those who have been charged with providing checks on executive power, protecting and defending the Constitution, and representing the will of the people, that time is now.

However, as far as I can tell, the people who have been elected to carry out those duties have been either failing to do so themselves and/or impeding others who do try.
