so maybe that is it?

However, the Mormon religion is very, very old school and tends to put a lot of emphasis on male dominance. I go to a Mormon family reunion in Utah every year (My Dad's Mom was Mormon and raised in rural Utah) and I will tell you right out that if they are not Jack Mormons but traditional Mormons, they are NUTS! Luckily most are Jack Mormons and they are mostly really cool people. My Great Grand Parents have around 2,000 grand children, great grand children and great-great grand children. Many of them have been married and divorced several times and at every reunion everyone talks about is getting divorced from whom because he was either screwing around, beating her or screwing the livestock. And I am being 100% truthful when I say that. I have several relatives who caught their husbands with the pig or the sheep or the cow.
