22. Final draft submitted to Springfield News-Leader 2-24
President Bush, while I understand that the chances of you heeding any demand I make (being only a citizen of these United States, and not a wealthy one, at that) are very small, I demand that you stop the rush to war with Iran. Already, we are encountering faulty intelligence and the same saber rattling we heard in the run up to the Iraq invasion. You must utilize every option available to calm rising tensions with Iran, including diplomatic, economic, and political actions or sanctions, before even considering military force. I understand that you are not well versed in these areas; perhaps you could turn to your Democratic Congress for some inkling of how you should proceed. Use of military force must be understood to be the last resort -- not the first and only option, as it was for Iraq. War is not the answer.
Remember Mr. Bush, that while you may believe yourself to be 'The Decider,' you are, in fact, an employee of the U.S. People. We want our troops home NOW. We DO NOT ACCEPT war with Iran. War is not the answer.
