The recent crash of a Boeing737 in Nigeria:

The crater looks to be at least 30 feet deep by a hundred feet long and fifty feet wide.

The flight 93 crash involving a Boeing757 (larger plane of similar deisgn)near Shanksville:

The size of this crater was estimated to be about 10 feet deep and 20 feet wide.

How did a 757 leave this comparatively small crater even though it exploded so violently that it spread debris for miles around?

How did the flight 93 plane make such a neat plane-profile-shaped crater (you can see apparent wing and tail imprints) at the same time it exploded such that it completely disintegrated?
