My wife and I generally go through 200 rounds per range trip, rifle and pistol. Some people go through a thousand rounds a month.

Ammunition in a fire is only a hazard if it's loaded into the chamber of a firearm. Without the containment of a firearm chamber, they're just firecrackers (the case splits and vents). The primer cup is the most significant hazard, and even that won't penetrate a firefighter's protective gear, never mind an exterior wall.

BTW, the vast majority of gun owners (and gun-owning DU'ers) are nonhunters. I personally despise the term "sportsman" as trivial and sexist, but that's just me.
