3. they were rich, white, privileged men
doing what rich, white, privileged men had always done to amuse themselves.

Do you seriously imagine for a minute that they were giving a thought to anything other than their rich, white, privileged male selves?

Do you seriously think that they would have answered with an enthusiastic YES!! if asked whether it was an excellent idea for the poor, not white, unprivileged males in their vicinity to have the toys they were playing with?

What exactly was this little tale supposed to be in aid of?

By the way, if you're the author of this little appreciation, is there some reason that you think it's appropriate to refer to a gay man by saying flamboyant (if you know what I mean, and I think you do)? I mean, that might have been how rich, white, privileged men in the 1950s talked, but it's not really how, er, we do. Maybe you should consult a pink pistol on that. Hahaha.
