You know why I posted these quotes. Hitler was aware that his regime could not coexist with armed civilians, particularly in Nazi-dominated areas whose native inhabitants were slated for relocation and/or extermination due to their ethnicity. The Nazi firearms law link I posted goes into great detail about the Nazis' efforts, from the earliest days of their party, to strip Jews of their weapons. The spirit of Himmler's statement is the same: government by coercion only works when citizens have no means of resisting the state, therefore all weapons must be consolidated within the hands of state agents. Throughout history, leaders and thinkers from many political backgrounds have acknowledged that states can only force their will on an unarmed populace.
