1. People right now are angry, isolated and alienated
so I'd guess the market's just about fucked. All that remain are the final crash and the world war that follows.

Coincidentally, the girls in the high school near me are out of the Britney inspired slutwear and into jeans and sweatshirts.

I think they could also point to competence in government as a cause, rather than social mood, which seems more of an effect of diminishing expectations.
