30. Coulter's Game
Coulter is just another paid polemicist, her purpose is to parrot the fringes of the conservative zeitgeist, particularly the projection they do so well. As you know, conservatives have a strategy of accusing "liberals" of exactly what they are guilty of: Lying, hypocrisy, elitism, etc. Her books are almost scheduled to distract from whatever the conservatives are doing that year. Slander came out in the midst of the nadir of conservative attack politics, Treason came out as the traitorous PNAC plan to subvert US foreign policy and bankrupt the government came into being.

She has utterly no credibility, but this time she may have misjudged where the edge lies even for conservatives with her support of Joe McCarthy. And even that isn't particularly original, the idea being secreted in the thick of conservative loonidom with Bozell and Buckley's "McCarthy and His Enemies". Even by conservative standards McCarthy, with his taint of defending Nazi war criminals, might be slightly unpalatable.

Coulter has a role, though. Like the other Attack Bimbos such the blond before Anne Laura Ingrahm, the late (but perhaps unlamented) Barbara Olsen, the dutiful nut scribe Michelle Malkin and others, her role is to put a sweet face on the most intolerant and extreme conservative memes, like the figurehead of the prow of a fascist juggernaut. That way when the ugly fuck guys follow, the minefield is already cleared.

Which goes to show how the conservatives are all for gender equality, when it means putting a woman on point.
