26. Fact: Dean chose the less broad rights for gays and lesbians
Based on the Supreme Court opinion, quoted in a post before, Dean had to choose between gay marriage legislation and civil unions legislation. He had NO OTHER CHOICE. He chose the less broad civil unions legislation. The fact that he was threatened afterward says bad things about extremists in Vermont, but it does not mean that he was courageous on this issue.
