...and that is reflected here. The difference between him and the other generals is that he advocated using American influence (diplomacy and, if necessary, force) for _humanitarian_ reasons, rather than political/economic dominance. He has been very consistent on that, for many years; it is one of the reasons I am glad he is running.

Clark's answers on questions about gays in the military are excellent examples of a socially liberal perspective, thoughtfully presented. He says we should first adopt the perspective that the person whose rights are in question is important to us, like a son or a daughter, and then answer the question from that perspective.

Look past the uniform and see the man wearing it. He's a private citizen now, and is showing the concern for human life and suffering that his career in the military taught him.
