Once, in a Czech gasthaus, this older couple came in with a daughter about my age
(18 or so at the time). We all spoke in our limited knowledges of Czech, German
and English. I wanted to go old school and ask the parents if I could take their
daughter out to dinner.

I asked my Czech buddies how to ask this and they told me. I went back to their
table and repeated the words and watched in shock as they got angry and hustled
their daughter out of that gasthaus, looking at me in disgust. My Czech buddies
were HOWLING.

Mom and Dad must've had no sense of humor whatsoever. For, instead of asking in
Czechoslovakian for permission to take their daughter out, I had very earnestly
and innocently told them (probably fairly crudely) that their daughter had breasts
like the Alps.
