and were not seriously injured, amazingly enough.

This was well over 30 years ago. My uncle was a nice man who never intended to hurt anyone (and thankfully didn't). Intent is a huge part of a criminal act.

He was a sick man who couldn't find the willpower to not drink. How do we help people with this problem? Take otherwise productive, kind people and throw them away forever? There has to be a better answer, but I certainly don't know what it is.
