I was visitng some Vietnam vets at Walter Reed hospital. I was talking to one of them about his tour - and somehow we wandered off on the topic of the music that was popular during the war.
He told me that "Behind Blue Eyes" was, to him, a letter to the government - from an American soldier who was drafted and sent to Vietnam.
When he first told me that story, I was completely confused. So, when I got home, I pulled my Who CDs and listened to it. Really listened to it. And wow - just wow. I see what he means.
Try listening to it from that perspective. It's very interesting. I never hear "Behind Blue Eyes" without thinking of him now.
