I notice that people have different meanings for it. I always thought it was the place where you grew up or spent most of your pre-adult life, but some people call their current town their hometown whether they've always lived there or are relatively new to the area. Some people have places they just moved to for the first time as their "hometown" on Facebook. I still consider my hometown to be the town where I lived until I was 18, even though my parents don't live there anymore.
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, I just thought it was interesting. :shrug:
