I'm not asking anyone to move to or even to like every state. I'm asking why people are disinterested, why states in the middle of the country are called 'flyover' states. In my own experience, it's people from the East and West coasts and Texas who have no interest in the rest of the country. Does that mean everyone from those states feel that way? Of course not.

Once when I remarked to a friend from Texas that it surprised me that people in other states don't realize how vast the Great Lakes are (not long after the student from VA got back from his trip) and she snapped "Well, did you know it's impossible to drive across the widest part of Texas in 24 hours?" Yes, I did know that. I know how huge Texas is and I know how tiny Rhode Island is.

My curiosity stems from the fact that so many people I have encountered from these areas aren't interested. I just wanted to know why.
