1. A guy I know did this
He was sterile as the result of having had one of those childhood illnesses as an adult. His first wife went out and not once, but twice got pregnant as the result of extramarital affairs. My friend happily let his name be put on the birth certificates because he adores children and had wanted a family. Well, shock of shocks, his first wife didn't stop having affairs, just kids. Finally she found some guy who had more money and better connections, so they divorced. Now this is where it gets bizarre. My friend used her attorney as his when they drew up the divorce settlement. Her attorney, who just happened to be her uncle. Yeah, can we say my friend got screwed? I knew you could. A year or so after the divorce, his now 2nd wife and friend got together. She found out about the settlement, etc. and finally convinced my friend to get his own attorney to see if something could be done to rejigger the deal. The first attorney also screwed him over, taking lots of money and getting nothing done. Meanwhile ex-wife who had promised never to tell the children my friend wasn't their real father was happily telling the little darlings they don't have to listen to him, obey him or do anything he said when they are with him, because he was not their real father. First the oldest child broke off all contact and then so did the younger girl. Meanwhile my friend was still paying through the nose for child support and was on the hook for their college as well. I sort of lost track, but I believe that he got a new attorney and he and the ex reached an understanding that in return for a modest lump sum payment he would terminate all parental rights on the older girl and pay a much reduced amount of support for the younger one until she was 18. The judge signed off on the agreement because of my friend's documented sterility, saying that he had given quite enough support to 2 girls who were not his own.
