Smart because there's now hard evidence that will protect this family's child and countless others.
Also from the article: "The parents of the boy asked investigators not to release the videotape for fear it may jeopardize their criminal case."
This doesn't mean that they WON'T use it in the future, but at least they are placing priority on the criminal case.
