We put too much emphasis on material things, and looking at the global warming crisis we've gotten ourselves into, it's pretty sad that "having no car" would be on anyone's list of loser criteria - we need to shift the perception so that those with cars are considered losers. It's a weird quirk of American culture that living with extended family is also considered a loser trait.

One thing I learned from working with the IVAW doing reconstruction - having a "job" doesn't seem as impressive as speaking the truth or doing what's right.
