I start thinking about the outfield and the grass and the way it smells and the contrast between the grass and the infield dirt and the bright, white bases. I start thinking about the sound the ball makes when it hits the catcher's mitt and the little cloud of dust that puffs out when he's catching a heater and how it's like smoke and how right it is that it should look like that. I start to think about the buzz of the crowd and the way their heads all turn at once to follow the flight of the ball. Then I start to think about the sound of the bat on the ball and then it's all over with...
