68. He needs to know there are consequences to his actions
How old is this kid? It sounds like he's in high school. I think teenagers need to learn that there are consequences to their actions. His grades are his problem. Don't cut him any more slack.

Remember, in the "real" world, the things he is doing now will not be tolerated. If he gets a job, showing up tardy is going to get him fired.

I know the creative types march to the beat of their own drummer, but if he's not going to put in the effort to do his homework or show up on time, then he should have to face the consequences of HIS choices.

My step-son was in a similar situation last year. He was attending a magnet high school for creative types: writers, dancers, musicians, and other artists. Well, he wasn't doing his homework and was showing up tardy, and they booted him out of the school and into regular high school. He went from a school with a few hundred students to a school with 2000 students. He must have taken the expulsion to heart, as he's doing very well in the regular high school.
