Quantum trio share Nobel physics prize

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (CNN) -- Alexei Abrikosov, Anthony Leggett and Vitaly Ginzburg have won the 2003 Nobel Prize in physics for their contributions to two areas of quantum physics -- superconductivity and superfluidity -- which shed light on the outlandish properties of matter at extremely low temperatures.

Tony Leggett was one of my professors when I was a physics grad student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He taught one of the quantum mechanics classes I took, and sat on my qualifying exam committee.

I wish I could say that I had something to do with his research, but my research interests were elsewhere...
