42. Is this a trick question?
I vote for Stewart Copeland as the quintessential '80s drummer.

Arguably Phil Collins is a "better" drummer, but the work that by my lights proves he's "better" is his '70s work (with Brand X as well as classic Genesis).

My take on Neil Peart is, he's Keith Moon sober. If Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey wanted to do the Ninth Annual Who Farewell Tour, they could do a lot worse than to hire Neil and Geddy as this year's rhythm section. (Geddy would have to lose the Steinberger, however.)
