I don't remember a lot of what I did in college, bacause I was tripping most of the time. And when I wasn't tripping, I was smoking huge amounts of New Orleans ditch-weed (total shwag, gives one a thunderclamp-style headache and a mild buzz). Somehow I managed to get pieces of mine published in textbooks and magazine, though. And get a 3.6 GPA most of the time. And play guitar in a band who played every wednesday at Nick's on Tulane.

I've always been overweight, but through most of college, I was 310 lbs or so. And my father had died the year I started attending college, so bouts of depression were also very common (we were really close; he taught me how to play bass).

Musically, this was my "discovering great songwriters" period. Total Elvis Costello obsession ("Imperial Bedroom" on mushrooms: fucking genius), Duke Ellington CD's, Nick Lowe, Garcia-Hunter, Gershwin, Robbie Robertson......heard GbV for the first time in college.

Didn't get laid. Shaved my head most of the time, sloppy clothes. Good times, for the most part.

I gotta go back and get my degree, though. I got too immersed in the drug scene and let that taint my desire to attend classes....ended up resigning because my scholarship money ran out and I was too messed-up to ask for a deferment......spent the next two years a pot-smoking, Pernod-drinking recluse.
