Both films start from the same plot-point (Ash turns on a tape recorder of the professor translating the Book of the Dead (Necronomicon XMortis). The translation releases deadites who immediately take over one companion then stalk him and the rest of his cabin mates.) and follow more or less similar plots from there out. It's not really a sequel, it starts from the same moment in time and not subsequent to the earlier film.

So...really. We're getting a third version of the same general story. Nice. Only Sam Raimi could get away with that. They really need to bring back Bruce Campbell though...if not as Ash then in a cameo.
