34. I'd like to, but I'm not sure whether I should.
I also posted this in the Pets group:

I need dog advice.

Actually, I don't have a dog, and that's why I need advice. I'd like to get one, but I live alone and work full-time, sometimes during irregular hours. Also, I have two fairly young, good-natured cats who haven't been around dogs before (at least that I know of; they were shelter cats). I live in a city neighborhood in a single-family house with a small yard that's partly fenced in (it would be pretty easy to fence the rest of it). I've never had a dog, only cats; but I really like them.

Is it possible to have a dog at all if you are away during the day (a young puppy obviously wouldn't work)? If so, what breed? I'd want a smart, easy-going dog who likes water (I sail during the summer), isn't teensy, nervous or yappy, and who can get along with cats.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
