2. there aren't many shoes made in the US anymore
Nike bought Converse a few years ago and now Chucks are made in China. New Balance still makes some of thier shoes in the US, they are prominently labeled as US made when they are.

For what it's worth (not much in my opinion) Earth shoes says they have really strict labor standards at thier chinese factory and maintain a high degree of oversight. I can send you an audio file of an interview about this if you like, I was personally not convinced but :shrug:
