22. I read the stories after I got back. That's not why I took that picture
Two things drew me. First, the flowers by the back cross, and two, the fact that the first cross was a woman's name. We hear about all the sons lost, but not the daughters. Since I have two daughters, I was thinking about that.

Probably the flowers were there because of Mr. Qualls, so that is what drew me first, though I was looking for a female name before I saw the flowers. The fact that both crosses had displays around them also drew me.

If you haven't been there, I have to tell you it's a powerful, somber thing to see those crosses, and to realize many of the people around you are there because those crosses are more than names and wood. Especially when you see one with flowers or a flag, which means someone knew the person. When I took that picture, I wondered if either person's parents were watching me, and how they felt seeing my interest. It's a strange feeling, like you are honoring someone and trespassing on their most horrific grief at the same time. You can tell by the pictures the mood it put me in.
