"This is a good day for American workers, albeit a small one for those in the Gulf Coast who are already recovering from the Hurricane and the Administration policies from its aftermath. Because of the already low wages in that area of the country, the victory is small but I can't think of any of this magnitude and high-profile that we in the labor movement have won since the UPS strike.

Hats off to Representative George Miller for forcing this to a vote that the President would have lost with 37 Republican defections from his side. It was great maneuver, Even though the Republican leadership in the House would have never let something like this see the light of day, he introduced a joint resolution under the National Emergencies Act that makes it mandatory that Congress Act on his resolution within 15 calendar days. Instead of risk embarrassment with the GOP defections, Bush reneged on his Davis Bacon repeal that also included Southern Florida, along with the Gulf Coast. I called George Miller's office and thanked them even though I'm not from his district. A lot of people I think are doing the same. The email address is [email protected] or you can call the office at (202) 225-2095 "
