Congress to vote on Fate of Endangered Species

America's national symbol was once almost lost forever. But today, the bald eagle once again soars over our nation ... thanks in large part to the Endangered Species Act. Now the Endangered Species Act is under attack, and we need your help to save it.

Forward this message to a friend...

Yesterday the influential House Resources Committee voted 26-12 to advance a bill that would severely undermine the Endangered Species Act. The legislation, introduced earlier this week by Representative Richard Pombo (R-CA), would dismantle key protections for wolves, bald eagles and other endangered wildlife.

The full House could vote on this bill as soon as Tuesday. Please send a message to your Representative right now urging him or her to vote against the Pombo bill.

Since 1973, only nine out of the 1,800 plants and animals protected by the Endangered Species Act have been declared extinct. But Representative Pombo’s bill would take a wrecking ball to the law’s astonishing record of success.

Representative Pombo’s bill would undermine the Endangered Species Act and our national commitment to protect endangered and threatened wildlife. It would...

Sharply diminish habitat protection
Cut wildlife experts out of the loop in determining whether agency actions would harm endangered plants and animals
Weaken the role of science in decisions that affect endangered species
Make taxpayers pay developers to refrain from killing endangered plants and animals
This outrageous bill must be stopped, but we need your help to do it.

Help ensure that special creatures like gray wolves, sea otters, and grizzly bears are around for future generations. Please send a message to your Representative right now urging him or her to oppose the bill.

So far, more than 140,000 wildlife supporters from across the country have spoken up for strong federal protections for our endangered wildlife and the special places where they live. Won’t you join them?

As always, thank you for working to protect our vanishing wildlife and the habitat it needs to survive. Together we can win this fight.

Sincerely,
