Have the Repubs been pushing American politics as a whole to the right?

A few notes:

When considering candidates, it seems that the Dems have had to strive more toward a person hitting in moderate (which now seems more like right) areas, while the Repubs have been getting more and more hardcore rights in office.

The great Dems who stand up and do what WE would do, aren't considered for office (especially the presidency) often because they wouldn't be able to win the swing vote.

It's easy for a politician to say things about 'god', but if you so much as mention the fact you take offense to religion being pushed, and talk about separation of church and state issues, you're immediately labelled a horrible person.

The smear campaigns have been brutal, and people have grown to accept them instead of realizing the untruths that form their backbone.

Perhaps if we really want to turn this country around, we should stop creating a situation where a good part of America has to decide between two candidates they have no faith in, and instead show some support for our 'radical' ideas.
