When you look at the relatively SMALL cost to repair/reinforce/rebuild/whatever the "water handling" facilities of New Orleans, it boggles the mind when we look at what we are now faced with.. The toxicity alone is going to cost more than any of us can ever pay. (Lots will pay with their lives and the lives of their children).

A million or more have lost everything they owned in the world. They have lost family members...beloved pets..cherished photos of long-gone relatives & friends..

They have lost their sense of security..(if they still had any left)

Here's the thing, though..

There are many places in the US with crumbling infrastructures, uncleaned toxic areas, dangerous inner-city housing, people with little or no access to health care..

There are so many things here that need fixing, and they always get shunted to the side while JUNK gets appropriated money.

Our government careens from one disaster to the next, without the proper planning and attention to detail that might actually lessen the severity., if not prevent, the disasters from ever ruining lives, killing people or costing fortunes.
