something just doesn't compute about the response to this disaster . . .

mile for mile, the devastation caused by Katrina is every bit as catastrophic as that caused by the Asian tsunami . . . and this is in one of the most economically important areas of our own country . . .

yet Bush ignores it, the media downplays it, the federal response is agonizingly slow and tepid, the National Guard is barely visible yet, no one seems to be in charge, etc. . .

maybe I'm missing something, but this just doesn't compute . . . imo . . .
